At the beginning of 2016, the Bad Zurzach + Baden Health Promotion Foundation decided to promote the topic of sustainability in its own properties. Energy-saving projects were carried out at the Bad Zurzach rehabilitation clinic, among others – at that time still without DABBEL and with moderate success despite a six-figure investment sum.
Patients are offered a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services on almost 25,000 square metres of building space.
How did the project go at the time? Sparing no expense or effort, it was hoped to achieve savings of 12 % by optimising the entire building technology and energy systems. In addition, the in-house engineers and technicians were trained on the topic of operational optimisation. In the end, savings of about 7 % were achieved. Due to the hope for savings failed to materialise despite monetary and time expenditures, Mr Stefan Rütimann, Head of CFM and CREM at the Foundation Group, decided to work with DABBEL.
Today he gives us an insight into his experience of our cooperation:
What did the energy saving project at the Rehaklink look like before the cooperation with DABBEL?
“We did an energy-saving project where we expected a total of 12% in energy savings. Engineers and technicians were trained to just optimise the operation of the HVAC systems. The whole project was expected to run for 6 – 8 years.”
What was the project timeframe in mind? How much was the investment?
“Between April 2016 and March 2021, we invested a mid-six-figure amount.”
Were the results satisfactory and what insights did you gain?
“No, not completely. But it was still the right way to go, because it challenged the status quo, brought the facilities up to a new level and sensible investment measures were initiated.”
What was the trigger for the energy saving project?
“The sustainable thinking and the sensitisation of our own population to this issue. We also anticipated that energy prices would rise.”
What made you decide to try a solution like DABBEL software?
“We did not see any risk because of the business model, but we already believed in the potential of the technology at that time. If it hadn’t worked as promised, we would have just gotten out again after a few months. We wanted to see how it worked because we saw the added value for our portfolio from the beginning.”
“Thanks to the dynamic control of our systems, DABBEL enabled us to reduce energy consumption by an average of 20% in a very short time. The connection was carried out remotely with our IT experts within a few days and we received the first report just a few weeks later.”
How do you plan to achieve the ESG/sustainability goals in the future?
“We want to make a difference with our environmental management, and it is clear for us that DABBEL technology is a significant part of our sustainability strategy.”
What measures do you plan to take in this context? What are your next joint steps?
“We would like to connect as many buildings as possible with DABBEL’s software. The next projects have already been announced and are being planned.”

We were awarded by the Handelsblatt and McKinsey Germany – at the digital prize ‘THE SPARK‘ . Here, the scalability, the fast implementation and the very good results ( avg. 22 % per building) were appreciated.
